Private Loans
Private Educational Loans
Students who need additional funding beyond federal student loans—or who do not qualify for Federal Direct Loans or Parent PLUS Loans, or have reached federal loan limits—may apply for a Private Educational Loan (sometimes called an Alternative Loan). These loans are not subsidized, and interest accrues immediately upon disbursement. They may also be used to cover previous outstanding balances to the University, depending on the student’s last enrollment period.
Applications must be submitted by:
-
Fall Semester: November 15, 2025
-
Spring Semester: April 15, 2026
Students may use ElmSelect, the University’s third-party loan management platform, to compare lenders, loan terms, and interest rates. The University does not provide preferences or recommendations for specific lenders, and students are strongly encouraged to contact lenders directly with any questions.
For assistance with private loans or to learn more about available options, students should contact the Financial Aid Office.
