Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program provides part-time employment opportunities for students who need to earn a portion of their education costs.

Eligibility and Award Amount

Eligibility is determined by the Office of Financial Aid based on demonstrated financial need.
The amount a student can earn is based on need and the availability of FWS funds.

Employment and Compensation

FWS students are paid on an hourly basis every two weeks.
The starting wage is minimum wage and may increase depending on the job responsibilities and requirements.

Funding Limitations

The program is funded annually by the federal government, and the total available funds may vary each year.
Funds may be exhausted before the end of the academic year depending on the number of students employed, total hours worked, and hourly rates.
If FWS funds are depleted, continued employment is the responsibility of the employing department.
Departments and students will be notified in advance if FWS funding will end.

Administration
The Financial Aid Office oversees FWS eligibility, awards, and compliance with federal regulations.
