Federal Work Study (FWS)

Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program provides part-time employment opportunities for students who need to earn a portion of their education costs.

Eligibility and Award Amount

  • Eligibility is determined by the Office of Financial Aid based on demonstrated financial need.

  • The amount a student can earn is based on need and the availability of FWS funds.

Employment and Compensation

  • FWS students are paid on an hourly basis every two weeks.

  • The starting wage is minimum wage and may increase depending on the job responsibilities and requirements.

Funding Limitations

  • The program is funded annually by the federal government, and the total available funds may vary each year.

  • Funds may be exhausted before the end of the academic year depending on the number of students employed, total hours worked, and hourly rates.

  • If FWS funds are depleted, continued employment is the responsibility of the employing department.

  • Departments and students will be notified in advance if FWS funding will end.

Administration
The Financial Aid Office oversees FWS eligibility, awards, and compliance with federal regulations.
