LIN732 Cognitive Linguistics: Construction Grammar
In cognitive linguistics, the analysis of morphology and syntax is called Construction Grammar. Constructions are meaning-form pairings that vary in their degree of abstraction and analyzability, as well as their conventionality. This course provides the theoretical background to investigate constructions in ASL, English, and other languages. This includes discussion of cognitive abilities (e.g., categorization and construal), and how these abilities shape grammatical classes (e.g., nouns and verbs) and more complex constructions (e.g., morphology, compounding, argument structure, information structure).
