Private Loans
Private Educational Loans – Graduate Students
Graduate students who need additional funding beyond federal student loans—or who do not qualify for Federal Direct or Graduate PLUS Loans, or have reached federal loan limits—may apply for a Private Educational Loan (sometimes called an Alternative Loan).
Key Features

Unsubsidized: Interest accrues immediately upon disbursement.

Coverage: Can be used for tuition, fees, and in some cases, previous outstanding balances to the University, depending on the student’s last enrollment period.

Application Process

Students may use ElmSelect, the University’s third-party loan management platform, to compare lenders, loan terms, and interest rates.

The University does not provide preferences or recommendations for specific lenders.

Students are encouraged to contact lenders directly with questions about terms, rates, or eligibility.
