LIN 302 Introduction to Syntax in Use
This course provides a broad introduction to the principles of grammatical analysis in ASL and in English, with a focus on the analysis of linguistic data. Syntax is concerned with the sentence as a unit of language use, combining descriptions of events with communicative intentions. The course will cover a number of topics in syntax, such as word classes, phrases, grammatical roles in a sentence, and sentences of various types. These topics will be explored as they occur in actual language use, primarily English texts and ASL videos.
