EDU 844 Guided Studies: Candidacy Preparation
This course is offered to doctoral students to prepare their qualifying papers or their
comprehensive examinations for review. The purpose of these exams is to evaluate the student's success in attaining expertise in a related set of scholarly areas sufficient for using critical theory and conducting original, advanced research in a specialization area.
If the course is taken to prepare for qualifying examinations, then the student will
register for 1 credit. As part of their examination, the student will be given the
question(s) to answer. As part of the course, the instructor will select a committee of
reviewers and provide guidance on the qualifying exam process.
If the course is taken to prepare for the comprehensive examination, then the student will register for 2 credits with their advisor. For this course, students will develop their portfolios, including dissertation concept papers, with guidance from their advisor.
